VR and AI Transform Hospitality Education
Educational institutions integrate virtual reality and artificial intelligence to prepare future hospitality professionals.

A student dons a VR headset, stepping into a simulated kitchen at the International Institute of Culinary Arts (IICA) in New Delhi. This VR module allows students to practice without real-world consequences. "Virtual reality provides a safe platform for students to practice and make mistakes," says Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, IICA's Director of Studies.
AI is also reshaping hospitality education. The Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland teaches AI applications in hospitality, emphasizing how students can enhance guest experiences and operational efficiency. Dr. Jean-Pierre P. Boulanger, the Dean, stresses, "Students must leverage AI to enhance guest experiences."
A World Economic Forum study notes that 85 million jobs may be displaced by automation by 2025, while 97 million new roles will require tech skills. Hospitality schools are shaping the future workforce by integrating AI and VR.
Cornell University collaborates with Marriott International to develop VR training modules, aligning education with industry needs. Meanwhile, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group uses AI-driven chatbots for customer service, showcasing practical AI applications students learn.
Les Roches in Spain offers data analytics courses focused on hospitality, teaching students to interpret data for decision-making. Dr. Maria Torres, the program coordinator, states, "Understanding data is crucial for tomorrow's hospitality leaders."
The challenge remains in training instructors to deliver this new curriculum effectively. Faculty development programs and updated tech resources are essential. As the digital landscape evolves, hospitality education must adapt, ensuring students thrive in a tech-driven economy.
