The terracotta façade of Postcard Hotel’s property in Cooch Behar sets a tone of elegance. Opened in February 2023, this boutique hotel embodies the brand's club-first model, prioritizing exclusivity and personalization.

Founded by Kapil Chopra, former President of Oberoi Hotels, Postcard Hotel aims to disrupt the Indian luxury market. Chopra stated, “We create deeper connections by understanding our guests intimately, allowing us to tailor every service to their desires.” The hotel's design reflects local heritage while providing modern comforts, featuring a curated collection of art and locally sourced furnishings. The club-first approach offers exclusive services, including bespoke dining experiences and unique local excursions.

Guests receive access to the "Postcard Club," which includes priority reservations and personalized welcome amenities. Each guest's profile is maintained to ensure preferences are anticipated. The emphasis on personalization is evident throughout the property, from the in-room amenities to curated excursions reflecting local culture.

Postcard Hotel challenges conventional luxury hotels by merging a lifestyle club with accommodation. According to a report by Credit Suisse, luxury travelers are now prioritizing personalized services over traditional luxury markers.

Located near Cooch Behar Palace, the hotel offers access to local attractions. Guests explore Bengal’s history through curated tours and signature dining options that incorporate local ingredients, supported by Executive Chef Kunal Bansal’s commitment to sustainability.

Postcard Hotel plans to expand its concept across India, with properties in Kerala and Goa, each reflecting their surroundings. By 2025, the brand aims to expand to 15 properties, blending luxury, culture, and community.

In a recent interview with Hospitality Insights, Chopra reiterated the importance of community engagement, noting, “We wish to contribute to local economies while offering our guests an immersive experience.” Collaborations with local artisans and farmers ensure that the guest experience is rooted in the environment. The club-first concept integrates the hotel's operations into the local community, benefiting both guests and residents.

As luxury travel evolves, Postcard Hotel’s approach could set a new benchmark for hospitality in India. The challenge will be maintaining the authenticity of the club-first experience as the brand expands, ensuring that personalization does not dilute with scale. The success of this approach will likely influence how luxury hotels in India and beyond evolve to meet the changing demands of high-end travelers.
