On 1 September 2023, Klook, a travel service platform in Hong Kong, announced a strategic shift. The company plans to use social media influencers to promote curated travel packages, tapping into the trend of experiential marketing in luxury travel.

"We are curating experiences that resonate with the audience's lifestyle and aspirations," stated Klook's Chief Marketing Officer, Sabrina Wu. "Our collaboration with influencers allows us to present these experiences in a relatable format that speaks directly to potential customers."

A 2022 study by the Interactive Advertising Bureau found that 61% of consumers trust influencers more than brands. This trust is crucial as Klook partners with travel personalities to showcase itineraries featuring beaches, culinary experiences, cultural tours, and luxury accommodations—comprehensive packages Klook sells.

Klook’s campaign features influencers from diverse backgrounds. "By collaborating with influencers who specialise in different niches, we can ensure our experiences appeal to a wide range of travellers," Wu elaborated.

According to Allied Market Research, the global luxury travel market was valued at $1.2 trillion in 2021 and is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 12% through 2030. As demand for unique experiences rises, Klook's strategy positions the company to capture a significant market share.

Melissa Bruch, a senior analyst at eMarketer, notes, "Customers are more likely to engage with content that feels real. The goal is to create narratives around experiences that inspire potential travellers."

Challenges exist as influencer marketing becomes saturated. Klook insists on transparency regarding paid partnerships, ensuring followers know the content's commercial nature. Klook's commitment to ethical marketing is reflected in its collaboration with influencers who align with its brand values.

Klook also taps into micro-influencers, who typically have smaller but highly engaged followings. This strategy leverages the community-driven nature of micro-influencers, who often boast higher engagement rates. A 2023 report by HubSpot notes micro-influencers drive 60% higher engagement on average.

Klook is exploring technologies like augmented reality (AR) to enhance customer experience. With AR tools, potential travellers could virtually experience a destination before booking, allowing for informed choices. Such advancements set Klook apart from competitors.

Klook's focus on experiences reflects a broader change within the luxury travel industry. The role of influencers in shaping travel decisions expands. Klook's ability to adapt to dynamic expectations will be pivotal in determining its future in the competitive travel tech sector.
